ISO 9001:2008-certificate for MeduProf-S

On the 31st of January 2012, Sandra Henke, Director of Certiked, presented MeduProf-S the ISO 9001:2008 certificate for the Quality Management System of the company.

During the audit of the complete Quality Management System of MeduProf-S, which was held in December last year, no non-conformities, nor potentials for non-compliance have been noted (NL: zonder tekortkomingen en zonder aanmerkingen).

Four specific positive remarks have been made regarding the elaboration of the system.

- MeduProf-S has a good strategic policy which has been defined in measurable plans.
- The processes to achieve the company’s goals have been adequately documented.
- A continuous improvement plan records accurately how and which elements of the system need improvement.
- The organisation can be characterised by a sound awareness of the importance of quality.

The ISO 9001:2008 certificate concerns: “the development and execution of education, training and auditing in emerging countries and countries in transition, as well as in the Netherlands in the field of medical professions, hygiene and food safety, management, education, engineering/IT and quality assurance based on social entrepreneurship”.

This means that also the activities of the Dutch Business line “Zorg met visie” have been included in this certification. With QA manager Everard van Kemenade in a leading role, MeduProf-S managed to get all the processes in place and implemented within a year.

“As a company offering quality assurance support worldwide, we see it as our responsibility to have our own quality procedures in place. This ISO certification, added to the CPD certification and association with EOQ, demonstrates how serious our company is about quality”, Managing Director Willem van Prooijen stated during the certification ceremony.

MeduProf-S conducted second Accident and Emergency course in Ghana

From 12 – 16 December MeduProf-S lecturer Olaf van Oosterhout travelled to Ghana to conduct the second Accident & Emergency (A&E) module. This was done in cooperation with one of the consulting anesthesiologists from the hospital, dr. Anabah. The second module was like the first module in October a combination of lecturing and practising in the classroom and teaching on the job. The participants are trained to become trainers at their own ward, the train the trainer principle. To achieve this objective the participants were taught didactical skills as well as in-depth knowledge on Accident & Emergency. During the next 4 modules of the Accident & Emergency program the participants will become more and more competent, so that at the end of the day, when the project is finished the hospital has competent teachers in Accident & Emergency. The same five participants participated in Module 2 and were very enthusiastic and dedicated.

The topics covered in Module 2 were: again the ABCDE-method, primary and secondary survey, orientation, planning, treatment and evaluation. Lectures were given about shock, chest wounds, how to use a defibrillator, PHTLS in relationship with injuries that can be expected at an A & E and how to read rhythm on a monitor. Basic Life Support (BLS) was also lectured in theory and practiced during the hands-on sessions. Everyday there were bed-side training sessions at the A & E department.

MeduProf-S and partners in Uganda awarded with a PSI grant.

MeduProf-S and its partners ECUREI (Ernest Cook Ultrasound Research and Education Institute) and KIC (Kampala Imaging Centre) in Uganda have decided to invest in the first MRI training and diagnostic center in Kampala. Therefore they have subscribed for a PSI grant from the Dutch Government. Today the Dutch Government awarded the project with a PSI grant, in a meeting with 30 approved project applicants. The Managing Director received from the EVD an official PSI certificate as a “kick off” document in Den Hague. The EVD spokesman stated that 100 years ago the first X-ray machine was introduced in Uganda and now 100 years later it is time for an MRI center to serve training and the local community with high end diagnostics.

MeduProf-S and ECUREI Uganda finalized the last ultrasound training under ORET program

On Friday 9 december 2011 the last students finalized their exams for Ultrasound. Since 2004 around 180 ultrasound professionals are trained under ORET programs (Development related export transactions). MeduProf-S was responsible for the Technical Assistance in this program where in around 120 hospitals new equipment was delivered.. Together with our local partner ECUREI, our lecturer ultrasound Wilma de Groot trained local teachers and students in methodical scanning. We also introduced a student portfolio and trained the teachers how to support students with a portfolio. The ultrasound courses were jointly conducted by Dutch and local teachers. This resulted in an optimal learning curve for the teachers and thanks to that ultrasound training is now on the highest level in Kampala, Uganda. Both parties decided to continue their cooperation on the market of training in MRI and other modalities. To celebrate the end of the project a nice cake was offered to the students and teachers. Because “a project is only a success when a new project follows” MeduPRof-S and ECUREI will carry on as partners in health care training.

4th week of the Emergency Medical Care training on St.Eustatius

Petra Frankhuizen and Erik van Roon conducted the fourth week of the Emergency Medical Care training on St.Eustatius. The week began with assesments, both theoretical and practical. The results of this assesments gave the participants insight into their own learning process.

This resulted in several participants declaring that they are going to use the safety restraints in their own cars more often!
Inside and outside the classroom there were several scenarios for practicing.
During the next teaching week, there will be more assesments to improve the effect of the courses.
Again it was a very instructive week.

Hospital Waste Management and Infection Prevention, course 4

From November 7-11 the fourth and final course on Hospital Waste Management and Infection Prevention was conducted by Mr. Sierd Hoekstra during five days in one of the classrooms of the Kenyatta Medical Training Center. Fourteen senior nurses from seven hospitals were participating in this course. The course was a mix of theory about modern hospital waste management and infection prevention, and workshops for the participants in which they work out practical work plans for their own facility. Regular presentations of the intermediate results of participants in front of the group were held daily and led to fruitful and enthusiastic discussions.
By the end of the week the participants had enough information, knowledge and tools to return to their facilities and improve their local situation.
Tools and principles were based on the ISO 14001 methodology as well as on WHO and IFC recommendations.

Casualty Care Nursing course 6 conducted in Nairobi

From October 24 – 28 the last Course of six week on Casualty Care was conducted by Mr. Peter de Kruijter. The course lasted 1 week and was very productive and well receievd. Students really were eager to learn and had a wide experience and knowledge. There were two presentations/ lectures per day and the afternoon was very active practicng in examining trauma patients according to the ABCD method.
Participants indicated to have learned a lot and they can’t wait to go home and practice the newly acquired knowledge. Students expressed that they are gratefull that additional equipment will be supplied to their hospitals. This will take them far in being able to give better care to patients and this will also contribute to improve the prognosis of trauma- patients .
All in all a very informative and successful week.

Accident & Emergency course in Tamale, Ghana

From October 24 – 28 Erik van Roon went to Tamale, Ghana and conducted the first Accident & Emergency course. This was done in cooperation with one of the consulting anaesthesiologists from Tamale Teaching Hospital, dr. Anabah. He was also an active facilitator/trainer during the course and will be in between the teaching weeks. The first teaching week became a combination of lecturing and practicing in the classroom and teaching on the job. The participants are trained to become trainers at their own ward, the train the trainer principle. This means that the participants will be taught didactical skills as well as in-depth knowledge on Accident & Emergency. During the 6 modules of the Accident & Emergency program the participants will become more and more competent, so that at the end of the day, when SIMED and MeduProf-S move out, Tamale Teaching Hospital has competent teachers in Accident & Emergency. The five participants were very enthusiastic and eager to learn and together with dr. Anabah they will take full ownership of the courseThe topics covered the first week were the ABCDE-method in combination with the hourglass model as a standard approach for every patient who attends tot the Accident & Emergency, airway management, introduction of a triage system; The South African Triage Scale (SATS). This in order to expedite the delivery of time-critical treatment for patients with life threatening conditions and to ensure that all people requiring emergency care are appropriately categorized to their clinical condition.
Basic Life Support was also lectured and practiced. Thanks for the hospitality and until next time!

Kwaliteit van binnen en van buiten.

In het meest recente nummer van tijdschrift Synaps van het Nederlands Netwerk van Kwaliteitsdeskundigen (NNK) is een artikel geplaatst met als titel ”Kwaliteit van binnen en van buiten”, van drie medewerkers van de Hogeschool Arnhem Nijmegen en Everard van Kemenade van MeduProf-S. Centraal in het artikel staat een pleidooi voor kwaliteit “van binnen uit”. Vertrouwen geven en vakvolwassenheid zijn daarvoor voorwaarden. Meer informatie over NNK

In het tijdschrift Sigma, een toonaangevend tijdschrift op het gebied van kwaliteitsmanagement,

is een briefwisselng gestart over scholen in kwaliteitskunde. Daaraan hebben dr. Huub Vinkenburg

en prof.dr. T.W.Hardjono eerst een bijdrage geleverd. Nu heeft ook de Quality Manager van

MeduProf-S Everard van Kemenade zich in de discussie gemengd. Hij pleit naast de empirische, normatieve en reflectieve school voor de contextuele school, die in haar denken over kwaliteit de context waarbinnen de kwaliteit geleverd moet worden centraal stelt.
